Wood flooring on a budget

Wood flooring can be expensive but you can find cheap alternatives that can still add style and a clean finish to your home. I wish I had known about these options when I first moved into my house a couple of years ago. It’s obvious really, but you can use plywood which is available at most major DIY stores and timber yards.

Plywood is great to use as flooring in your home. It’s cheap, easy to install and can be easily maintained. Also it can look great if you take the time to stain it. You can buy sheets of Plywood and get them cut to your specifications from B&Q, just ask in store.

cork flooringAnother cheap alternative that looks good in the home is Cork. It’s also easy to lay and maintain. One thing I like about Cork is that it is completely environmentally friendly, as it comes from a sustainable source. The best thing to do with Cork is treat it with a dark wood stain. Another benefit of Cork is that it is a decent insulator so you can save money on your bills at home too. It’s simple to lay just use adhesive and a serrated spreader and layer it with several layers of varnish once laid.

Last but certainly not least good old Linoleum. Everyone knows this one and I think it is underrated as flooring goes. Again like the others it is cheap, easy to install and maintain and best of all its entirely waterproof if fitted correctly. It is especially good for people with allergies as it is made from man made materials and you can buy it in a large variety of styles, colours and patterns.

So if you are on a tight budget and would like some time to save up some money and invest in a high quality floor for your home or just want something that is relatively hard wearing and cheap and easy to replace, then these options are perfect for you.
