A well stocked kitchen
Oct 31st, 2008 | By admin | Category: Latest Blog PostsThe kitchen, I would say is the room with the most potential for gadgets and utensils as its a work area, and an area where preperation and experimentation occurs.
I have come up with a list of products that I think a well stocked kitchen should have, in order to make your life easire. In no particular order here they are:
A decent grater. It’s best to get one that has different sized holes so you can use it for a number of tasks. My favourite is to grate cheese, which I love. But you can also use it on lemons and oranges to create zest.
A good vegetable peeler. This will come down on preperation time and make your life easier. Get a dishwaser safe one so you can chuck it in the machine and it wont rust.
An assortment of spoons. These are useful for serving and mixing a variety of foods. A wooden spoon is useful for mixing sauces on the hob. A ladle for soup. A slotted spoon, useful for serving vegetables straight from water and a large serving spoon. You can often buy these in a spoon ‘variety pack’ so they all match. Nice if you like to make your utensils a feature in your kitchen by hanging them on hooks or leaving them on display.
A measuring jug. Very important if you want to add the correct amount of water to your recipes. Or measure out the right amount of something.
Weighing scales. For the same reason as the above the recipe always turns out better if you stick with the exact measurements.
A colander. I don’t expect any kitchen in the world is without one of these.
Kitchen scissors. They come in handy for so many things.
Potato masher. Need I say more, helps to make lump free mash.
Tongs. Excellent for turning meet.
A George Foreman. I have had one for four years now and I couldn’t live without it. Excellent for cooking sausages and home made burgers healthily.
A roasting tin. Essential for Sunday roasts.
A range of good knives. I suugest a bread knife, chopping knife, a serated knife for cutting veg and a carving knife to get started.
A mixing bowl. You should get a few different sizes that are dishwasher and oven proof, this way you can use them for a number of tasks.
Chopping boards. You should have one each for fish, meat and veg.
A whisk. Useful for beating eggs, and making a smooth sauce.
Pots and pans. A small medium and large pot. A frying pan, a wok and one extra large pot comes in useful sometimes.
A kettle. For a well deserved cuppa.
