Laying lino in the bathroom
May 6th, 2008 | By admin | Category: Latest Blog PostsWell I finally decided this morning to take action and to start doing up my bathroom. I wanted to start with the flooring. I currently have carpet in the bathroom, which I don’t like at all. I have decided to put Linoleum flooring, which is also known as vinyl flooring. I went to Wickes this morning to pick up some Linoleum flooring to do the floor.
As it is the bathroom I was concerned as to what sort of underlay I would need as it would need to be damp proof. As I don’t have a clue about these type of things I thought I would ask a few members of staff as to which underlay I would need if I wanted to put lino in the bathroom. Nobody was very helpful and it made the whole experience quite frustrating. We, my boyfriend and I then decided that we should check out some other places to see whether we could find a better deal.
The vinyl flooring that they were selling in Wickes came as self adhesive tiles which appeared to be very easy to fit and were reasonable at £6.99 per sq. metre. We decided to check out Carpet Right as we thought they would have a better range. They did have an excellent range however, the price per sq. metre was much higher than the self-adhesive tiles we had found in Wickes, with the nice ones starting from £17.99 per sq. metre. The linoleum flooring in Carpet Right came in huge rolls and would have been quite difficult to fit yourself, as I presume they expect you to take their fitting service.
So, it was back to Wickes. We were then advised by the staff in Wickes that we should lay the lino tiles onto hardboard. The hardboard only came in massive sheets that would not fit into our car. So we asked them if they could saw it in half so that we could take it home and there were unable to do this for us. They suggested home delivery but it seemed ridiculous to get it delivered, so we gave up on Wickes and went to B&Q.
Our local B&Q is massive and has an excellent range of everything DIY. We soon found exactly what we wanted. As a bonus we also found lino tiles that were in the sale at £2 per sq. metre, what a saving! We also bought some new lights for the bathroom. Which my boyfriend is going to have a go at fitting. I’ll let you know how we get along.
