Home design and colours
Mar 5th, 2008 | By admin | Category: home designWhen you’re designing your home choosing a colour scheme is pretty daunting and a pretty tough task, which in some cases can even cause arguments! You can do a lot with colour in your home. It can be used to create a certain mood and atmosphere or more commonly create a light comforting space.
Consider textures, colours and furniture
When choosing your colour scheme remember to take into account other textures and colours, such as the type of furniture and maybe even paintings you intend to hang. All of these elements will play a role in the overall effect, so it’s important to make sure they all fit seamlessly.
To start things off you have to think about the orientation of the room. For example, if it’s north facing, the room will not receive any direct sun light. This means any light it does receive won’t feel as warm and inviting as if it was directly from the sun. In contrast if the room is south facing and receives lots of light, you should use cooler colours such as blues to make it feel spacious.
Another thing to keep in mind is how the room will be used, if you normally use it after a hard days work you may want to choose calming colours such as greens, browns and creams to relieve stress. You can also create a calming atmosphere by using varying tones of the same colour on the skirting boards, ceilings, door and window frames, this will create a stylish yet calming atmosphere depending on the colours you choose.
You can also zone areas of your room. This works well in rooms with dual functions, such as a spare bedroom that doubles as an office. You can zone an area by placing a complimentary livelier colour in the area where the activity takes place.
