Green homes save money – Recycling
Aug 31st, 2008 | By admin | Category: property adviceIt’s amazing what you can do when you put a bit of care and attention to something. I’m talking about being more environmentally aware and contributing in a positive way.
By doing this you can actually save money and help save the environment at the same time.
Recycling could save you money
First of all you can recycle. Everyone knows you can save up your bottles and plastics and take them to the recycling banks. However, lots of local councils now offer recycling collection services. You should be able to find out if your local authority offers this service by visiting their site.
There are plenty of ways you can manage your recycling to make life easier. You can buy a multi compartment bin to store your glass, plastics and cans. Other things you can do include re-covering or re-painting an old chair instead of buying a new one or giving your old furniture to a charity shop instead of taking it to the dump.
If you have an old computer or any other kinds of appliance or piece of furniture don’t just throw it away. There are sites such as www.freecycle.org where you can list your old stuff for free and give it away. The person who wants it then arranges to pick it up and take it off your hands.
Another way that you can recycle is by re-using your shopping bags or buying a bag for life from your local supermarket, which lasts a long time and is made out of recycled material. You can also re-use old jam and pasta sauce jars for storing other foods.
Buy refills for your cleaning products
You can also buy refills of your cleaning products, which is becoming quite popular now because it can save money. If you can, you should buy loose vegetables and fruits instead of buying the packed versions. This saves on the packaging and you only buy what you need, which means you don’t waste anything.
I have included below some useful resources on how to recycle and do more for the environment.
