dining roomToday I am going to talk about the dining room and what you can do to make it the perfect space for a night in with your family and friends. People’s attitudes to dining have changed dramatically over the years. In the past the dining room was only used for very special occasions that were often very grand and formal events. Nowadays the attitude has changed and many people often hold dinner parties which are fun, informal and sociable. As a result of this change in perception the appearance of the modern dining room has changed along with it.

Today, it is common to see open plan living with the dining room linking to the kitchen or living room. This means the dining room usually has a dual purpose and in order for you to create a specified dining area you will have to create a zone to distinguish it from the living room or kitchen.

Initially you should start to think of the look and feel you want to go for. You can do this by thinking about places where you been before that have really stood out for the right reasons maybe restaurants you have eaten in or rooms you have seen in magazines.

Lighting in the dining room is very important it can really help set the mood. A good way of controlling the atmosphere is by installing dimmer switches, candles also provide a very elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. If you want to prevent uncomfortable silences or provide a relaxed atmosphere you can have some music playing in the background to lighten the mood.

You also have to consider how things feel to your guests this can go down to the smallest detail, such as the crockery, flooring, table linen and seating. Many large restaurant chains spend a lot of time considering what seating to use. Do you want your guests to stay for a couple of hours or be happy to stay put for a whole evening. Everything must come together with a fluid consistency to help convey the mood you are trying to capture.
