Being Green can save you money

Being green can have its benefits on your purse strings, especially when the utility suppliers are hiking up prices.

In aid of this bad news I’ve included some helpful advice on how to make some savings on your home utility bills. This is quite a well known fact, but just by turning down your central heating by 1 degree you can actually save 10% on your heating bills, that’s a good saving and you can still stay warm.

RecycleAlmost everyone leaves their TV and DVD player on standby it’s just something you do without realizing, but this does cost you money and switching these appliances off you can make quite a sizeable saving by the end of the year.

If you reduce the temperature that you wash your clothes to 30c you can use up to 40% less electricity. You can also buy more energy efficient washing machines and save even more money.
Old boilers can cost you money; today’s boilers are built to be more energy efficient and in some cases can save you up to a third on your heating bills.

Poor insulation in the home can result in up to 40% heat loss, yes, 40%, who would of thought it. By improving the insulation in your loft you can cut your bills and make your home cosier. You can fit it yourself by installing mineral wool and do this for as little as a couple of hundred pounds. This investment can save you up to £70 a year so after just three years you’ve made your money back.
Nowadays most home appliances especially in the kitchen have an energy efficiency rating. So when you buy any new appliances consider their rating and save money.

If you buy an insulating jacket for your immersion tank you can reduce heat loss by up to 70% and reduce your bills £10-£15 a year.

A good tip is to place aluminum foil behind radiators on outside walls; this results in the reduction of heat loss and guess what it can save you money.
